John Balbach is an Associate Director, Impact Investments with the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, where he also is a member of the Climate Solutions initiative. Prior to MacArthur, Balbach served on a National Science Foundation commercialization review committee, managed and raised capital for an Impact Investing Fund focused on developing the Michigan life sciences sector, advised corporations on infusing cleantech solutions into their supply chains, provided consulting services to leading nonprofit organizations with the Nonprofit Finance Fund, served as a strategic advisor to hundreds of founders of technology-based startup ventures through a Michigan economic development program, and helped to establish Silicon Valley Bank in the Seattle market. Balbach holds a B.S in Finance from Miami (Ohio) University, an M.A. from St. John’s College, and an M.P.A. from the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs.
Patrick leads RPA's Social Finance Practice, focused on impact investing and market-based approaches. He helps individuals, foundations and corporations use a range of assets to achieve their social impact goals. His areas of expertise include Program Related Investments, Monitoring & Evaluation, Financial Inclusion, Faith-Based Strategies, and the Sustainable Development Goals. Patrick led the creation of two impact investing guides commissioned by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (Introduction // Strategy & Action) and frequently speaks at industry events.
Prior to RPA, Patrick was head trader and investment analyst of Lee Financial’s $900M portfolio. As a professional tennis player, he earned a world doubles ranking of 125 and played in Wimbledon 2008.
Patrick has a B.S. in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from Yale’s School of Management. He serves on the boards of Briaud Financial Advisors, LearnPhilanthropy and the Rivendell Institute at Yale. Outside of work, Patrick can be found wrestling with his two nephews, discussing the implications of different worldviews and dancing the Texas two-step.
Rebekah Saul Butler is Co-Executive Director of the Grove Foundation, where she leads the Foundation’s transition to mission aligned investing, co-manages operations, and oversees the Foundation’s environment, health and safety-net grantmaking. Prior to her work at the Foundation, she was a healthcare-focused strategy and operations consultant with Deloitte Consulting. She spent the beginning of her career as a policy associate at The Guttmacher Institute, where she was managing editor of the Guttmacher Report and spearheaded policy analysis on a range of subjects. Rebekah has served as chair of Funders for Reproductive Equity, on the steering committee of the Bay Area Workforce Funders Collaborative, and as an adolescent health expert on panels for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She earned an AB in Sociology and Spanish from Stanford University and an MBA and MPH from UC Berkeley, where she helped launch the Global Social Venture Competition.
Catherine joined MCE Social Capital as a Managing Director in September 2017 where she focuses on engaging and growing MCE’s community of philanthropic Guarantors and investors. She has spent most of her career in the fields of philanthropy and impact investing, most recently as Senior Manager, Client Engagement at RSF Social Finance. During her six years at RSF, she managed their donor advised fund program, played a lead role in investor cultivation and stewardship, managed and grew RSF’s pooled PRI fund program, and led a successful fundraising campaign for an initiative focused on deploying multiple forms of capital in support of sustainable food systems.
Earlier in her career, she worked with and advised public charities, private foundations and philanthropists while at the Tides Foundation, SunTrust Bank, and the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation. She received her B.S. in Business from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech).

Shawn Ginwright, a leading national expert on African American youth, youth activism, and youth development. Dr. Ginwright serves as the Senior Research Associate at the Cesar Chavez Institute for Public Policy in San Francisco, CA and is also an Associate Professor of Education in the Africana Studies Department at San Francisco State University. He is the author of “Hope and Healing in Urban Education”, “Black Youth Rising, Activism and Radical Healing in Urban America”, “Black in School- Afrocentric Reform, Black Youth and the Promise of Hip-Hop Culture” and co-editor of” Beyond Resistance!: Youth Resistance and Community Change: New Democratic Possibilities for Practice and Policy for America’s Youth”.
Erin Harkless is a Senior Investment Director at Cambridge Associates. Based out of the Arlington, VA office, she advises a variety of institutional investors on asset allocation strategy, manager selection, and investment program evaluation. Erin also works with clients to develop strategies for impact and mission-driven investments and is a member of the firm’s Mission Related Investing Practice. She is a frequent speaker at impact investment industry conferences and co-authored a Cambridge research reports on governance considerations for impact investors and social equity investing.
Prior to joining Cambridge, Erin held positions at the Princeton University Investment Company, Summit Rock Advisors and Goldman Sachs. Erin received her MBA from the Harvard Business School as a Robert Toigo Foundation Fellow and her BS magna cum laude from Washington University in St. Louis. She is also a CFA charterholder and member of the CFA Society of Washington DC.
Lisa Hammann is the Chief Operating Officer of the Reproductive Health Investors Alliance and the Chief Operating Officer of the Tara Health Foundation. In these roles, she leads teams focused on bringing capital and enterprise to the reproductive health field in the United States. Lisa joined the reproductive health community after a 16-year career at Genentech/Roche, where she held P&L accountability for Genentech’s $400M+ cystic fibrosis business, and was the head of the North American supply chain region, accountable for $20B+ of medicine across the United States and Canada. Prior to these roles, Lisa led Genentech’s patient access services, serving over 100,000 patients annually, and led the company’s strategic marketing function for managed care organizations. She has also worked in health services research and strategic consulting. Lisa holds an English degree from Yale University and a Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan School of Public Health.
Brad has direct responsibility for managing client relationships primarily working with foundations, endowments and nonprofit organizations. He works closely with clients to understand their goals and objectives; manage their investments, including impact investing; and integrate their investment strategy, philanthropy, and estate planning into a cohesive wealth management plan. Brad leads the environmental sustainability impact strategy.
Brad is a frequent speaker on impact investing, total portfolio activation and environmental investing topics. He is involved with the Global Impact Investing Network, Social Venture Partners, Confluence Philanthropy, Mission Investor’s Exchange, and a number of other effective organizations raising the efficacy of impact investing. Brad joined Tiedemann when the firm merged with Threshold Group, where he served as Director of Wealth Advisory.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Economics and Management from Cornell University and a Master of Environmental Management from Yale University. Originally from Massachusetts, Brad resides in Portland, Oregon, with his family.
With more than 35 years in the field, Oran B. Hesterman is a national leader in sustainable agriculture and food systems.
He currently serves as president and CEO of Fair Food Network, a national nonprofit that pioneers solutions that support farmers, strengthen local economies, and increase access to healthy food—especially in our most underserved communities. Since 2009, Fair Food Network’s signature program, Double Up Food Bucks, has become a national model for healthy food incentives. Hesterman’s 2011 book, Fair Food: Growing a Healthy, Sustainable Food System for All, was heralded by The New York Times as “an important, accessible book on a crucial subject” and is required reading at 25 colleges and universities. Before launching Fair Food Network, Hesterman served as a program director in food systems at the W.K. Kellogg Foundation during the time that the foundation helped seed the local food systems movement with more than $200 million in investments. Prior to his work in philanthropy and nonprofits, Hesterman taught at Michigan State University.
Kristin is a social change agent, entrepreneur and impact investor, helping others invest into the world in which they want to live using finance as a tool for social change. She is devoted to promoting inclusion and diversity in leadership, and to re-envisioning capitalism. Kristin founded Nia Community Investments in 2010, a 100% impact portfolio. In 2013 Kristin launched Nia Global Solutions. Prior to Nia, Kristin served as President and Chair of the Board of the Hull Family Foundation from 2007 to 2011, where she oversaw all of the investment efforts and transitioned the endowment from a traditional investment portfolio to one of the country’s first 100% mission impact invested portfolios. From 1990 to 2007 she worked as an educator in the Bay Area. She earned her B.A. and teaching credentials at Tufts University, her M.A. in Research in Bilingual Education from Stanford University and her Ph.D. in Urban Education from the University of California at Berkeley.
Kate is a Managing Director focusing on alternative investments. She is a co-head of Athena’s research and manager selection team across asset classes. She previously worked as a Consulting Associate at Cambridge Associates where she supported Consultants in managing, advising on, and reporting on a variety of institutional client investment portfolios. Kate started her career as a Research Analyst at Stonebridge Associates, a real estate investment and advisory firm, and then transitioned to economic consulting with both Capital Economics and LECG where she was an Economist/Consultant providing economic analysis and market research to support high-profile anti-trust litigation. She has also worked in the global equity research group at Fiduciary Trust. Kate currently holds the Series 65 license.
Kate has a BA in Economics from the University of Virginia and received an MBA from Yale School of Management.
Bruce is a Trustee of the Robert & Patricia Switzer Foundation, the Portfolio Manager at Sustainable Insight Capital Management, and a Lecturer at Columbia University’s Earth Institute in the Sustainability Management Program. Previously, Bruce was a Director in Deutsche Bank’s Asset Management division as an investment strategist. Prior to that, he managed assets at Smith Barney's Private Wealth Management Group in sustainable investments. He serves as a member of the Board of Visitors for the Gaylord Nelson Institute of Environmental Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison; the Technical Review Panel of National Renewable Energy Laboratory; and the Advisory Council of the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board. Bruce holds a BA in Ecology & Evolutionary Biology from the University of Connecticut; MS in Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures from Auburn University; PhD in Land Resources from University of Wisconsin, Madison; and is a recipient of both a J. William Fulbright Scholarship and a National Science Foundation Fellowship in ecological economics.
Danny Kennedy leads the California Clean Energy Fund, connecting entrepreneurs everywhere to capital to build an abundant clean energy economy that benefits all. This includes overseeing the CalSEED.fund of $25m for very early stage companies driving innovation and building equity in the California economy. Additionally, CalCEF runs a network of incubators and accelerators globally called New Energy Nexus. Kennedy is also the President of CalCharge, a public-private partnership with DoE National Labs and universities in California, unions and companies, working to advance energy storage.
Kennedy co-founded Sungevity in 2007, the company that created remote solar design, and Powerhouse, a smart energy incubator and accelerator. He was the first backer of Mosaic in 2011, the $2B solar loan provider, and remains on the Board of Powerhive, a solar mini-utility in Kenya and Sunergise, a solar-as-a-service business out of Fiji and the EnergyLabAustralia. He is also a Director of the organizations VoteSolar and Power for All. Kennedy authored the book Rooftop Revolution: How Solar Power Can Save Our Economy – and Our Planet – from Dirty Energy in 2012. Prior to being an entrepreneur, he worked at Greenpeace and other NGOs on climate and energy issues for 20+ years.
Rajiv is engaged in strategy development and effective execution of all activities related to the Social Justice Giving goals in Thousand Currents’ Theory of Change, particularly resource mobilization and building a philanthropic community that has forged solidarity-based learning partnerships with grassroots groups in the Global South. He provides overall leadership of the Philanthropic Partnerships Program at Thousand Currents, overseeing donor engagement, the Thousand Currents Academy, Learning and Evaluation, the Buen Vivir Fund, and Diaspora Partnerships. As part of the Senior Management Team, he also informs and guides Thousand Currents’ overall strategy and planning, ensuring collaboration and interconnectedness across all Thousand Currents’ programs. He currently serves on the Board of the Management Assistance Group, which strengthens individuals, organizations, and networks to bring about transformative change. In addition, he is on the Stewardship Circle of Thrive East Bay, a purpose-driven community of people committed to creating a flourishing world for all. A recovering academic, Rajiv is professionally trained as a historian of international relations with expertise in Modern Europe, South Asia, and the Cold War and has designed and taught college-level courses at universities across the U.S. He has also led the Indian Diaspora Oral History Project, a community-centered project focused on South Asian immigrants in Silicon Valley, as part of the Silicon Valley Immigration Center at San Jose State University. Rajiv has a Bachelor’s in English and History from Newman University in Wichita, KS, and a Master’s in history from The Ohio State University. A native of Bombay, he is a published poet and writer, enjoys cooking, the outdoors, the ocean, reading, traveling, and is a cricket fanatic.
Dana launched Confluence Philanthropy in August of 2009 after serving as the executive director of the Environmental Grantmakers Association (EGA). While at EGA, Dana provided networking services to over 250 grantmaking organizations from across North America and Europe.
From 2009-2011 Dana served as the Program Director and Board Advisor at The Swift Foundation while launching Confluence. Prior to Philanthropy, Dana founded Literacy for Environmental Justice (LEJ), an environmental education and youth empowerment organization for at risk youth. While there, she acted as a lead organizer in the closure of San Francisco’s infamous Hunters Point Power Plant; raising funds to supplant it with the region’s first off-the-grid educational Eco Center. She has been a fellow at the Donnella Meadows Program in Systems Theory and the California Women’s Foundation Policy Institute.
Dana has also lived and worked among the Samburu (Maasai) in northern Kenya for many years; the Cheyenne River Lakota; and Roma refugees in Europe.
Craig Metrick is Managing Director at Cornerstone Capital Group, where he oversees the firm’s manager review process and provides investment advisory services for institutional clients. Craig contributes to Cornerstone’s Investment Advisory business by helping to ensure the firm provides clients with a robust investment product solutions suite and by leading and supporting advisory relationships with our foundation, endowment and family office clients.
Previously, Craig was Principal and US Head of Responsible Investment at Mercer, working with a variety of clients — from multibillion-dollar pension plans to smaller institutions. For 18 years, he has consulted on implementing responsible investment principles and mandates. Before joining Mercer in 2006, Craig was a Director at the Investor Responsibility Research Center (IRRC), which provided ESG research to institutional investors.
Craig serves as the Chair of the Board of the US Forum for Sustainable and Responsible Investment (US SIF) and is a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst.
Regan Pritzker is an elementary school teacher and mother of three teens. As chair of the investment committee of her family’s foundation, the Libra Foundation, Regan works to accelerate alignment of the invested assets with their mission to support transformative social justice. She also serves on the boards of Global Greengrants Fund and The Urban School of San Francisco. She holds a master’s degree in Developmental Education from the UC, Berkeley, and a bachelor’s degree in Art History from Stanford University.
David has more than 35 years of investment management experience and is a trailblazer in the socially responsible/impact investing arena. In 1994, he co-founded Access Capital Strategies and served as its president and chief investment officer from 1994 to 2010. In this capacity, he pioneered the development of market-rate, fixed income impact investments for institutional investors. He then worked as a consultant to Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFI’s), non-profits and social enterprises. David serves on the following boards: New York Advisory Board for Enterprise Community Partners, Croatan Institute, and AERIS®: The Information Service for Community Investors. He is also a former board member of U.S. SIF: The Forum for Sustainable Investment.
David received his A.B. in American History from Princeton University and an M.P.A from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He holds FINRA licenses: Series 7 & 63.
Lisa Renstrom identifies as a Nebraskan, but a decade in the hotel industry in Mexico enhanced her world view while she focused on a business bottom line - not a triple one. Back in the US she discovered the concept of social returns, first as a local Sierra Club group chair, then Executive Director of Voice & Choices, later, as President of the national Sierra Club and then Rachel’s Network.
Lisa currently serves as a Board member to Bonwood Social Investments, ecoAmerica, Interfaith Power & Light, and Confluence Philanthropy while chairing the Management Committee for DivestInvest Individual. Her formal education derived from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Owner President Management (OPM) at Harvard Business and MC/MPA from the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government.
Jeff Rosen is the Chief Financial Officer for the Solidago Foundation and its affiliated Foundations, where he oversees all of the financial systems as well as managing the MRI and PRI portfolios. Jeff is a graduate of Cornell University’s School of Industrial and Labor Relations and holds a Masters in Resource Economics and Policy from the University of Maine, where he worked to pioneer sustainability focused impact assessment techniques. He has worked in the private sector as a serial entrepreneur, developing and selling food sector businesses, and as a chief financial officer for several restaurant chains and food manufacturers. He is an active, founding member of PVGROWS, a local food system collaboration located in Western Massachusetts, where he is part of a group focused on financing the regional food economy. Jeff served as an Adjunct Faculty Member in the Antioch University Sustainable MBA program, teaching Ecological Economics for Social Entrepreneurs from 2007 to 2015. Jeff lives in Northampton MA, with his wife and three children.
Lorenzo J. de Rosenzweig Pasquel has 30+ years of experience in the environmental and conservation finance field. As President of the Mexican Fund for the Conservation of Nature (a $125m endowment Conservation Trust Fund) for more than 22 years, and Chairman of the Mesoamerican Reef Fund (a $25m endowment Regional Conservation Trust Fund) for more than 10 years, he has acquired extensive experience in fundraising and execution of capital campaigns, and the operation and funding of biodiversity conservation, environmental research, regional development and capacity building projects. He has also contributed to the design and incorporation of learning and practice networks for the National Environmental Funds of Latin America and the Caribbean (RedLAC) and 3 additional communities of practice in fire management protected areas and marine conservation.He is a member of several boards and advisory councils, including the Conservation Finance Alliance (CFA) Executive Committee, The Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO), The Mesoamerican Reef Fund, The Healthy Reefs Initiative, The Fund for Communication and Environmental Education, the Lindblad Expeditions-National Geographic Conservation and Exploration Fund, and the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED). In the latter, he brings the Latin American perspective to development issues linked to biodiversity and natural resources.Lorenzo has a B.S. degree in Biochemistry and Engineering from the Monterrey Technological Institute (ITESM) and a Master in Science degree in Marine Biology and Seafood Technology from Oregon State University. Fields of expertise include biology, ichtiology, ornithology, natural sciences, environmental engineering, food science and toxicology, as well as financial investment and asset management. He is fluent in English and Spanish, has basic German skills and is a Certified Nitrox and Recreational Diver.He has also contributed to more than 30 books and capacity building tools, and participated in 6 technical field guides as an illustrator and photographer of wildlife.
Diana Trump is a Trustee and the Treasurer of the Penney Family Fund, a Berkeley-based foundation supporting human rights advocacy, government accountability, and environmental sustainability. The foundation’s main focus is on green jobs creation and youth-led efforts to improve the health and sustainability of local communities. As Treasurer, Diana has overseen the transition of the foundation’s corpus to a fully screened portfolio devoid of carbon-intensive assets. In her professional life, Diana is a Marketing Manager with the venture-backed analytics startup, Heap. Diana is based in San Francisco and received her B.A. from Duke University.
Rev. Lennox Yearwood Jr., President and CEO of the Hip Hop Caucus, is a minister, community activist and one of the most influential people in Hip Hop political life. He works tirelessly to encourage the Hip Hop generation to utilize its political and social voice. Rev Yearwood is a national leader in engaging young people in electoral activism. He leads the national Respect My Vote! campaign and coalition (www.respectmyvote.com). In the 2012 Elections, numerous celebrity partners have joined the campaign to reach their fan bases, including Respect My Vote! spokesperson 2 Chainz.
The Hip Hop Caucus has registered and mobilized tens of thousands of young voters to the polls. In 2008, the Hip Hop Caucus set a world record of registering the most voters in one day: 32,000 people across 16 U.S. cities. This effort was part of the Hip Hop Caucus’ 2008 “Respect My Vote!” campaign with celebrity spokespeople T.I., Keyshia Cole and many other recording artists, athletes, and entertainers.
Rev Yearwood entered the world of Hip Hop Politics when he served as the Political and Grassroots Director of Russell Simmons’ Hip Hop Summit Action Network in 2003 and 2004. In 2004 he also was a key architect and implementer of three other voter turnout operations – P. Diddy’s Citizen Change organization which created the “Vote Or Die!” campaign; Jay Z’s “Voice Your Choice” campaign; and, “Hip Hop Voices”, a project at the AFL-CIO. It was in 2004 that he founded the Hip Hop Caucus to bring the power of the Hip Hop Community to Washington, DC.
After Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Rev Yearwood established the award winning Gulf Coast Renewal Campaign where he led a coalition of national and grassroots organizations to advocate for the rights of Katrina survivors. The coalition successfully stopped early rounds of illegal evictions of Katrina survivors from temporary housing, held accountable police and government entities to the injustices committed during the emergency response efforts, supported the United Nations “right to return” policies for internally displaced persons, promoted comprehensive federal recovery legislation, and campaigned against increased violence resulting from lack of schools and jobs in the years after Katrina.
A national leader and pacemaker within the green movement, Rev Yearwood has been successfully bridging the gap between communities of color and environmental issue advocacy for the past four years. With a diverse set of celebrity allies, Rev Yearwood raises awareness and action in communities that are often overlooked by traditional environmental campaigns. Rev Yearwood’s innovative stance has garnered the Hip Hop Caucus support from several environmental leaders including the National Wildlife Federation, Earthjustice, and former Vice President Al Gore’s Alliance for Climate Protection.

Jonathan F.P. Rose’s business, public policy and not-for-profit work focus on creating a more environmentally, socially and economically responsible world. In 1989, Mr. Rose founded Jonathan Rose Companies LLC, a multi-disciplinary real estate development, planning, consulting and investment firm. The firm has completed $2.3 billion of transformational work, in close collaboration with cities and not for-profits. Mr. Rose is a thought leader in a wide range of urban issues, and the development of communities of opportunity. He has received the MIT’s Visionary Leadership Award, The Urban Land Institute’s global award for Excellence and many other awards for his work. Mr. Rose’s book on how to create resilient cities, The Well-Tempered City: What Modern Science, Ancient Civilizations and Human Nature Teach Us About the Future of Urban Life, was published by Harper Wave in 2016, and won the 2017 PROSE Award for Outstanding Scholarly Work by a Trade Publisher. Mr. Rose is a Trustee of Enterprise Community Partners and the Brooklyn Academy of Music. He is an Honorary Member of the American Institute of Architects and Honorary Trustee of the American Museum of Natural History and Jazz at Lincoln Center. Mr. Rose plays bass and blues harp. Mr. Rose and his wife Diana Calthorpe Rose are the co-founders of the Garrison Institute and serve on its Board. The Institute connects inner transformation with outer solutions to relieve suffering in the fields of trauma, education and the environment. Mr. Rose graduated from Yale University in 1974 with a B.A. in Psychology and Philosophy, and received a Masters in Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania in 1980.
